Weddings at First Christian

We are delighted to share information with you about the wedding ministry at First Christian Church (DOC).  Weddings are performed here annually for members and non-members alike.  Our church includes a lovely, large sanctuary that seats up to 400 people and a small, intimate chapel with seating for 70.  Both the sanctuary and the chapel have center aisles leading to the front.  The stained glass windows in the sanctuary are magnificent works of art in deep jewel tones of blue, red and purple.  The windows are smaller in the chapel but are created from the same rich colors.
All weddings are performed on Saturdays unless otherwise approved by the Senior Minister.  Member weddings are given priority scheduling.  No weddings are scheduled during the month of December.
Every wedding ceremony at First Christian Church (DOC) is a sacred event where the bride and groom pledge themselves to one another in the presence of God.  Our policies about weddings emerge from this conviction and they apply whether or not the participants are members of this congregation.  A Christian wedding is a holy celebration in the sight of God and all who will participate in your wedding.  The church and its ministers have a responsibility to see that the service is carried out in a manner that glorifies the sacredness of the occasion.
If you are interested in having your wedding at First Christian Church, the office manager is your initial point of contact.  She can show you our facilities, check availability on our calendar and with our ministers, and go over wedding fees.  Once your wedding date and time have been approved, you will be referred to a minister and church hostess to work out the specific needs of your wedding plan.   We will also provide you with contact information for our church organist so you can check her availability and fees or obtain the name of an approved guest organist.  The bride will be responsible for obtaining a wedding director.
If a First Christian Church minister is presiding at the wedding ceremony, he or she will need to meet with the contracting parties well in advance of the proposed wedding date.  He or she will require a minimum of three premarital counseling sessions prior to the wedding ceremony.   If a guest minister is desired, the ministers of First Christian Church of Wilson, NC must be consulted, offer approval, and will participate at his/her discretion in the ceremony.
On the wedding day,a three-hour block of time is scheduled so there is ample opportunity for the florist and photographer, as well as the ceremony.  A one-hour rehearsal is planned for the preceding Friday evening.  The latest hour for a rehearsal is 7:00 PM.  The rehearsal and wedding will begin promptly at the set time.  We provide dressing rooms for the women of the wedding party in the education building located next to the main church and chapel.
Let us know if you would like to work with us during this wonderful and exciting time in your lives!  We are waiting to assist you.
